STC Effingham campus starts orientation program

POSTED: September 26, 2007 5:06 a.m.

Business is already booming at the Savannah Technical College’s Effingham campus.

STC officials enrolled 38 students during its first Basic Learning About Savannah Tech session, called BLAST, Monday.
“I was pleased with the turnout,” interim campus director Carol Paulk said. “I thought it was a good turnout. We didn’t know what at all to expect. Everybody seemed to be enthusiastic.”

The BLAST registration and orientation was for new Savannah Tech students and some Effingham residents currently attending other STC campuses inquired about classes at the Effingham campus.

“We covered a lot in the orientation,” Paulk said. “Primarily, they were interested in signing up for classes. We had a number of students who wanted to take courses at the Effingham campus because it’s more convenient.”

The Effingham campus will conduct associate degree programs in management and supervisory development, diploma program in business office technology and technical certificate programs in technical communications specialist, certified nurse assistant, patient care technician, computer support technician and industrial production line and basic mechanics operator.

More than 100 people have stopped at the new STC building in Effingham to ask about enrolling.

“There’s still plenty of time to get an application in and register for fall quarter,” Paulk said.

New and returning students can register Sept. 26. Placement testing will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
