County to wait on test results for ash roads

POSTED: April 21, 2011 7:57 p.m.

Effingham County commissioners are awaiting results of tests on materials before deciding on how best to repair one of the county’s worst ash roads.

Commissioners were presented with two options on repair the .92 mile stretch of Forest Haven Road. Under the first option, the road would be milled and the ash reclaimed, then remixed and packed. In the second option, the ash would be completely removed and replaced with a new base before asphalt was affixed.

The first option, county project manager Adam Kobek said, is an experimental pursuit while the second option is more in line with traditional road construction methods.
