County close to cutting impact fees on trial basis

POSTED: April 28, 2011 7:32 p.m.

Home builders in Effingham County may be getting a little bit of a break on their costs soon.

Effingham County commissioners will hold their second reading Tuesday of a proposal that would curtail much of the impact fees assessed to builders. Commissioners likely will adopt a new schedule of fees that will cut the reuse water fee from $2,000 to $1,300 and eliminate the roads, recreation and public safety fees altogether. Currently, those three fees total $1,500.

In the event a subdivision does not take back reuse water, that $1,300 fee will stand, County Administrator David Crawley said. The fee would be waived if the development can accept the reuse water, either through irrigation or a sprayfield.
