A Clyo man was airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center late Wednesday afternoon after he was burned in an explosion.

Danny Smart, 53, of Clyo, suffered serious burns at his home on Clyo-Kildare Road after he was working on a vehicle and something exploded. Smart drove himself to the Effingham County Fire Department’s Clyo station on Highway 119 where emergency crews attempted to stabilize him.

Smart then was taken by ambulance to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, where he was taken by air ambulance to Augusta’s Joseph M. Still Burn Center.

Deputies believe it was accidental.
