Guyton resident scratches way to $1M

POSTED: October 17, 2011 7:18 p.m.

An Effingham County man is excited about a Georgia Lottery win. Trey Hunter of Guyton won $1 million playing the instant game Maximum Green.

“I don’t have plans at the moment,” said Hunter, 29. “I can’t believe it.”

Hunter scratched his lucky ticket at home after purchasing it from BP, 101 Columbia Ave. in Rincon.

“I called my mom and dad and let them know,” he said. “Then I got them to look at it to make sure I wasn’t seeing things.”

Hunter, who works in marketing, said he decided randomly to buy a ticket.

“It still hasn’t set in yet, but I’m very excited,” he said.

In June, BP in Rincon sold a winning $2.5 million ticket and a $198,753 Fantasy 5 prize in 2009.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.3 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
