The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a wanted fugitive.

Ronnie Williams, 25, of Rincon, is wanted for several outstanding charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, sale of cocaine and several other charges.

Many of these charges stem from an incident Sunday night where Williams was the driver of a vehicle reported stolen out of Savannah that led Effingham County deputies on a pursuit. The firearm in Williams’ possession was stolen out of Cobb County, according to the ECSO.

An Effingham deputy pulled the vehicle over for an equipment violation, ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor said.

“The deputy ran the tag, and the car came back as stolen,” Ehsanipoor said.

The car and its passengers took off, and deputies began a pursuit.

Deputies had been looking for Williams after he skipped a May court date. He was scheduled to stand trial before Superior Court Judge John R. Turner on charges of sale of cocaine and possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute. He has been convicted five times, four for drug-related charges.

Williams also may have made threats against individuals involved in other drug cases and also is suspected of tampering with a witness’ vehicle. That vehicle eventually crashed, and the driver was seriously injured.

Williams has been known to frequent the Savannah area and Effingham County. His last known address was at 511 W. 9th Street in Rincon.

Williams has an extensive criminal history, according to the ECSO, and investigators believe he is armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on Williams whereabouts is asked to contact the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office at 754-3449 or Crime Stoppers in Savannah at (912) 234-2020.
