ECSO seeking driver who hit child

POSTED: January 3, 2013 6:56 p.m.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a hit-and-run driver who seriously injured a child on New Year’s Eve.

Three-year-old Jordan Mydell of Rincon was hit by a vehicle on Highway 21 around 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

According to a witness, the child was hit as he tried to cross the road from the Goshen Crossing Apartments toward the Parker’s gas station.

The driver, in what the witness said was a white SUV or van, fled northbound on Highway 21. The witness said the suspect’s license plate included the letters BKY.

“There are two angles to this investigation,” Ehsanipoor said. “We’re trying to determine what the child was doing in the roadway at that time and determine who the driver was.”

The child is being treated at Memorial Health University Medical Center. He suffered multiple shoulder and head injuries but is expected to survive, Ehsanipoor said.

The ECSO is reviewing surveillance video from area businesses as part of its investigation, according to Ehsanipoor.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit at754-3449.

“Any lead, as small as they think it is, could break open the case,” Ehsanipoor said.
