Customers have been through the doors of the new Enmark in Springfield for a few weeks now, and company and Springfield officials were happy to cut the ribbon on what is now the largest store in the chain.

“We’re very excited to be in Effingham County and Springfield,” said Matt Clements, Enmark’s director of marketing. “We want to continue to grow in Effingham.”

The store, 5,010 square feet, opened in December and boasts more than gasoline, cold drinks and snacks, according to Enmark representatives.

“We’re making Boston butts and rotisserie chicken,” said Enmark operations manager Jerry Morris. “It’s not your typical (convenience) store.”

“It’s phenomenal,” Clements said of the store’s chicken. “We ask anybody to give our food a try.”

The store also has frozen yogurt, and Clements added they are trying out new programs in the Springfield store.

“We’re trying to separate ourselves from the competition,” he said.

A Larry’s Giant Subs is housed in the Springfield Enmark. The Enmark at Goshen Road and Highway 21 also has a co-located Larry’s Giant Subs, which was there when the station switched to Enmark. The Enmark in Rincon near the Highway 21 and Fort Howard Road intersection will remain open.

“We’re real happy in both the Goshen and Rincon locations,” Clements said.

The company takes about a month to iron out the kinks before holding an official opening. The company added 1,300 square feet to the Springfield location.

“We spent a lot of time on design and construction,” Clements said. “We would like to have been open sooner, but we wanted to make sure we got it just right.”

Morris said the location also was just right for the company.

“It’s close to downtown and the schools,” he said. “It makes sense to us. It’s a big site, and we knew we had room to grow. So far, we’ve been pretty pleased.”
