Reward offered in robbery

POSTED: April 18, 2013 6:34 p.m.

A Rincon man is offering a reward in hopes of authorities catching the burglars who took guns and ammunition from his home on Monday.

Suspects broke into a house on Rose Hill Drive in the Hickory Knob subdivision and took three gun safes that contained “approximately 20 firearms, including several rifles, and a large amount of ammunition,” said Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

Investigators are certain the crime was the work of more than one person.

“It had to be multiple individuals due to the number of safes and the weight of those safes,” Ehsanipoor said. “Those are fireproof safes; they are very heavy. It takes four men to do that.”

The homeowner, Mark Malke, is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrests and convictions of the suspects.

No one was home during the burglary. Investigators believe it occurred between 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

“I don’t believe this is a random burglary,” Ehsanipoor said.

Deputies have been canvassing the neighborhood, Ehsanipoor said, and the case remains under investigation by the ECSO’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office at 754-3449.
