Two students from Effingham County recently received the Georgia Heritage Federal Credit Union’s 2013 college scholarships.

Cody Shuman and Michaela Lariscy each received $1,000 scholarships from the Georgia Heritage FCU.

Shuman, who graduated from South Effingham High School, will attend the University of South Carolina with plans to earn a degree in mechanical engineering. Shuman also will complete naval sciences courses through the Navy ROTC program.

A second-time GHFCU scholarship recipient after earning one in 2011, Lariscy is a student at Georgia Southern University in the early childhood education program. Lariscy plans to complete her undergraduate studies at GSU before moving on to Auburn University for her master’s degree.

Each year, Georgia Heritage FCU offers college scholarships to one graduating high school senior and one student currently enrolled in or accepted to a college. Applicants must be members of Georgia Heritage.

The credit union is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Chatham, Effingham or Bryan counties.
