The community is invited to give Megan Johnson a big sendoff as she goes to California to compete in the National American Miss pageant.

Charlotte’s Tavern in Rincon will host a sendoff and fundraiser for Johnson on Saturday from noon-8 p.m. The business will give a portion of its sales to Johnson, who will help serve customers for tips.

Johnson, a 2013 South Effingham High School graduate and current Georgia Southern University freshman, will depart Nov. 25 and compete for an entire week in the national pageant in Anaheim, Calif.

She earned the opportunity by winning her age division in the 2013 National American Miss Georgia pageant in Atlanta in June. She was crowned Miss South Georgia Teen.

Johnson will compete for five days prior to the announcement of the results on Dec. 1. Along with the talent, formalwear and spokesmodel competitions, Johnson will be interviewed by 10 judges.

The contestants will visit Disneyland, accompanied by children with disabilities. Community service and communication skills are part of contestants’ scores for National American Miss pageants.
