EEMA opens warming center

POSTED: January 23, 2014 6:43 p.m.

The Effingham County Emergency Management Agency has opened a warming center as nighttime temperatures continue to hover around 20 degrees.

The warming center is at 2696 U.S. Highway 80 in Bloomingdale, which is normally the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office substation.

The warming center opened at 6 p.m. and remains open until Friday morning at 8. The EEMA is expected to re-open the warming center today at 6 p.m. as the temperatures are again expected to drop to 20 degrees.

The Effingham Emergency Management Agency will open the warming center anytime the temperatures drop below 30 degrees. Everyone is encouraged to stay weather-aware.

EEMA thanked the Manna House Ministries, Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie and local volunteers to make the warming center possible.
