Sgt. Jose’ Ramirez, patrol commander for the Rincon Police Department, told the Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club about the Citizens Police Academy.

Sgt. Ramirez said the department’s intention is to give residents a better understanding of what the police department does and how it accomplishes those tasks. The 10-week course covers introduction/training, patrol operations, investigations/narcotics, forensics, traffic enforcement, use of force, tour of the 911 center, SWAT, and a ride-along.

Graduation and a dinner are held at the end of the course. For additional information contact Sgt. Ramirez at 826-5200.

Ramirez said the department hopes to build an ongoing, working relationship with the attendees in the mutual fight against crime and disorder.

“We believe that the more educated the public is about how the Rincon Police Department operates, the more trustworthy and less feared we become,” he said.
