Locals in the pros, colleges update

Baseball
Josh Reddick (Oakland Athletics) — Reddick is off to a strong start in the Cactus League. Including two highlight-reel catches in one game, he also is 3-for-7 in his first three spring training games. Oakland opens the 2014 regular season March 31 at home against Cleveland.


Colleges
Baseball
Jesse Whaley (Andrew College) — Whaley has pitched in four games for the Tigers, going 0-2 with 12 earned runs on eight walks in 3 1/3 innings.
Andrew Martin (East Georgia State College) — Martin is 2-0, allowing five runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out three in eight innings for the Bobcats (7-9).
Kyle Ward (Georgia College and State University) — Ward struck out three and gave up one hit in his first inning of the work for the Bobcats, who are 4-1 after splitting the first two games with No. 1-ranked Tampa.
Alec Arnsdorff (Georgia Highlands College) — Arnsdorff, a freshman catcher, has played in four games and is 0-for-7 with one run scored and two RBIs for the Chargers.
Cal Baker (Georgia Southern University) — Baker is a freshman infielder for the Eagles, who are 10-2.
Ryan Frederick (GSU) — Frederick is 1-0 in three starts for the Eagles, giving up five runs on 14 hits and six walks in 11 innings. He has struck out seven and has an earned run average of 4.09.
Eric Knox (Georgia Tech) — Knox, a freshman outfielder for the Yellow Jackets, is 2-for-4 with one double, one RBI and one run scored in three games.
Dylan Griffin (Georgia Southwestern State University) — A freshman catcher, Griffin is 9-for-34 (.265) with five RBIs for the Hurricanes, who are 4-13.
Zack Smith (Georgia Southwestern State University) — Smith is 0-1 in five games, allowing nine earned runs in 12 1/3 innings. He has walked 10 and struck out eight.
Spencer Harvey (Middle Georgia State College) — Harvey is 4-for-16 with three RBIs in six games for the Knights, who are 11-3.
Austin Denney (Savannah State University) — Denney is 1-1 with an ERA of 4.38 for the Tigers, who are 5-7. In four games, he has allowed six earned runs on 15 hits and eight walks in 12 1/3 innings. He has six strikeouts.
Aaron Hoffer (SSU) — Hoffer is hitting .316 with two doubles and four RBIs. He has an OPS (on base percentage plus slugging percentage) of .901.
Brandon Wallace (SSU) — Wallace has appeared in three games, giving up four earned runs on five hits and five walks over 3 1/3 innings.


Men’s basketball
Jay Wright (Casper College) — In 29 games, Wright is averaging 15.9 points per game, along with 4.5 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game. He leads the team in minutes, assists and steals.
DeQuincey Bennett (Johnson and Wales University) — Bennett leads the Tigers with 16 points per game. He is shooting 39.9 percent from 3-point range and also is averaging 3.3 rebounds and two assists per game.
Alex Reid (Georgia College and State University) — Reid has appeared in 22 games for the Bobcats and is averaging 1.8 points per game for the Bobcats (10-16).
Demontrez Austin (South Georgia State College) — Austin is averaging 4.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. South Georgia is 17-13 for the season.
T.J. Rines (South Georgia) — Rines has appeared in 29 games and is averaging 2.4 and 1.9 assists per game.


Men’s track and field
Tim Jackson (SSU) — Jackson was second in the pole vault at the SSU Eyeopener meet Feb. 22, turning in a best of 4.47 meters.


Women’s basketball
Amy Jameson (College of Coastal Georgia) — Jameson is averaging 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game for the Lady Mariners, who are 23-7.
Hannah Anderson (Converse College) — Anderson averaged 2.0 points and 1.9 rebounds per game for the Valkyries. She had two points and two rebounds in a season-ending loss to Pfeiffer.


Softball
Alexis Mercer (Armstrong Atlantic State University) — The reigning Peach Belt player of the year is hitting a torrid .551 with eight home runs and 20 RBIs for the Pirates (11-5). She also leads the team in doubles (nine), hits (27) and runs scored (23).
Courtney Jenkins (East Georgia State College) — The sophomore is 2-2 with an ERA of 2.67, striking out 15 while allowing eight runs on 23 hits and eight walks in 21 innings. She is also 6-of-17 at the plate with one homer, two doubles and five RBIs.
Maddie Evans (Reinhardt University) — Evans is 0-for-6 with one run scored in six games for the Eagles (16-3).
Katie Rietkovich (Reinhardt University) — Rietkovich is hitting .227 with two home runs and five RBIs for the Eagles.
Shelby Zipperer (University of South Carolina-Beaufort) — Zipperer, a junior outfielder, is 11-for-40 with two doubles, three homers and nine RBIs for the Sand Sharks (14-2).
