Community missed out on a chance to get healthy

POSTED: March 20, 2014 2:54 p.m.

Dear Editor,

Saturday, March 8, at the Effingham College and Career Academy, the citizens of our community missed a great opportunity for not only enjoyment but education if they did not attend the Get Healthy in 2014 event.

Ashamedly, I have to admit that my attendance was not self-motivated. Fortunately, though, Merrill and I have children and grandchildren who engage (well, sometimes drag us) in attending many activities within our community. As I reflect on the time we as a family spent at the health fair, I wish I would have been more enthusiastic and implored all my friends and family to make time for a visit to this event. There was something of interest for all ages, for people from all walks of life, and much information that just might help you save your life — or be the instrument to helping someone else.

Also, I commend all those who contributed their time to our community — vendors, workers, the school for use of its facilities and the BOE for agreeing to its use, and to each person who took advantage of this great resource.
