Two wrecks end in fatalities

POSTED: April 12, 2014 7:15 p.m.

A 72-year-old man and a teenager died from injuries in separate accidents Thursday on Effingham County roads.

Lawrence Brown, 72, of Guyton died following a single-vehicle crash on Little McCall Road around 4 p.m. Thursday.

Brown lost control of his pickup on a curve and crashed into a power pole on Little McCall Road near Pleasant Acres Road, according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Brown was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the truck, said ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

Early that morning, one teenager died and another was hospitalized following a head-on collision on Highway 17 at Roebling Road.

According to investigators, a Ford truck driven by Shelby Peacock, 18, of Springfield was southbound on Highway 17. The truck crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Chevrolet Cavalier head-on shortly before 6 a.m.

The driver of the car, Luke Hannon, 19, of Pooler, was airlifted to Memorial Health University Medical Center. Hannon was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon.

Peacock was taken to the hospital. Details on his condition, or any possible charges related to the crash, have not been released.

The head-on collision remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
