A convicted felon is back in jail after shooting at Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies who responded to a domestic dispute.

Deputies went to 182 Raccoon Drive in the Foxbow Farms neighborhood around 6 p.m. Sunday after neighbors called the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office to report a domestic dispute.

“We received three 911 calls about a man with a gun at the residence,” said ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

The suspect, later identified as Eric Harrison, 41, of Eden, lives at the house with his wife, according to the ECSO.

“While sheriff’s deputies were on scene trying to get the suspect out of the residence, the suspect walked outside and fired at least one shot at a deputy,” Ehsanipoor said. “The suspect retreated back into the residence before deputies were able to return fire.”

The man surrendered after a brief standoff and was taken into custody, Ehsanipoor said. Investigators recovered the gun Harrison used and shell casings.

“Kids were there at the residence, but the wife and kids left before the shooting took place,” Ehsanipoor said.

Harrison was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, reckless conduct and battery. He is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail.

Harrison has what Ehsanipoor described as “an extensive criminal history.”

The investigation is ongoing by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigations division.
