Harvey to step down from IDA

POSTED: July 21, 2014 7:23 p.m.

Rose Harvey is resigning from the Effingham Industrial Development Authority.

Harvey has represented the 1st District for more than seven years. She submitted her resignation, effective July 31, at Thursday’s board meeting.

“I appreciate the opportunity I’ve had to serve the taxpayers of the county, and I’ll miss participating in the process of making Effingham County a better place to live,” she said. “All of my decisions have been made with the best interest of Effingham County first and foremost.”

IDA Chairman Dennis Webb praised Harvey’s dedication to the board. Since her appointment, there have been nearly 100 board meetings.

“She’s missed one, which is some kind of record that will never be broken,” he said. “More importantly than that, Rose is probably the best-read and best-prepared board member. She does her homework very well.”

Harvey said she has informed county Commissioner Forrest Floyd of her decision. Floyd will make a nomination to take Harvey’s spot.

“I thank all of you for making this a pleasurable experience,” she said. “We’ve had our ups and downs as a board, but it’s been a pleasure to work with such honorable, dedicated people.”
