Effingham County Junior 4-H’ers traveled a short distance this year to experience fun in the sun at their summer camp getaway. This year’s camping spot was the 4-H Burton Center on Tybee Island.

The 4-H’ers enjoyed sites and activities such as a Savannah River dinner cruise, downtown Savannah ghost tour, the Tybee Island Lighthouse, Marine Science Center and marsh trawl.

Campers chose from an assortment of service opportunities while at camp, including working at the local food bank, visiting the local senior center and patrolling the beach for trash.

“Being an active member of your community is such a big part of what makes Georgia 4-H great,” said Effingham 4-H program assistant Faith Jaudon.

She added that none of it would have been possible without the helping hands of 4-H chaperones, who give their time and talents for the betterment of the 4-H Youth Development Program.
