Grace Reddick, author of “Ashley’s Unforgettable Summer,” visited students at Marlow Elementary School on May 2.
Reddick, a Savannah native and resident of Ellabell, spoke throughout Effingham County schools for the last two weeks in honor of Young Authors.

Her granddaughter and inspiration for the book, Ashley, is a teacher at Sand Hill Elementary. Ashley’s best friend Rylee is based on her other granddaughter.

“Ashley’s Unforgettable Summer” is a story about a little girl with a mischievous pet chimpanzee that caused all sorts of problems and mishaps for Ashley and Rylee.

Reddick captured the attention of the students of Marlow Elementary as she described situations Tina the chimpanzee put the young girls in. Reddick used an assortment of props, including a variety of toy chimps representing different scenes in the book.

Reddick said she enjoyed the opportunity to speak at Marlow Elementary, South Effingham Elementary and Sand Hill Elementary. She said she loves interacting with the children and the love and attention she receives from them.
Reddick’s second children’s book, “Forsaken Land,” is expected to be published by late summer, and she will be at the Barnes and Noble book store in the Oglethorpe Mall on May 17 from 2-4 p.m. for a book signing event.
