Savannah Christian's season came to an end in Adel on Wednesday as the Cook Hornets swept the Raiders in their Class AA state baseball second round series, 7-2 and 10-0.

The Raiders finished the season 19-12.

In the first game, the Raiders stranded 13 runners. Lawson German got the loss. Andrew Drought was 2-for-3, Jonathan Hester was 2-for-3 with his ninth homer and Chad Boaen was 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI.

Drought was 2-for-3 in the second game and managed Savannah Christian’s only two hits off the Hornets (26-4). Nate Sisolak (11-4) got the loss.

Cook, ranked No.2 in the statewide coaches’ poll, will host Holy Innocents’ in the quarterfinals.

Following the second game, the players had a outfield meeting and when heading back to the dugout and out of the field, each player laid down their red jersey so that retiring Coach Billy Shelton could have a “red carpet” to walk on off the field for the final time.  

Several Raider players will continue their baseball careers, first with Sisolak, Hester, Jordan Hill and Kyle Jones in the Coastal All-Star game on May 24-25 at Grayson Stadium. Then, the same four seniors will play with Chain Line Drive 18 and under team all summer in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, along with Effingham standouts Dylan Scott and Zach Dotson and South Effingham standouts Colby May and Steven Vaughn. Sisolak is headed to Gordon College. Hester and Hill are going to Middle Georgia College and Kyle Jones will continue his career at USC-Beaufort.
