POSTED: June 23, 2017 4:42 p.m.

POOLER - The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force is holding a Free Community Admission Day, sponsored by Gulfstream on Sunday.

This day allows all residents in Chatham County, Effingham County and Bryan County to get into the Museum for free with their local ID.

Visitors can experience the stories of the heroes of the Eighth Air Force by going on a B-17 mission in the three-part Mission Experience, walking under the wings of the restored B-17 “City of Savannah”, or walking around the hundreds of memorials in the Memorial Garden.

If you’ve never experienced the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, this is the perfect day.

The Free Community Admission Day is sponsored by Gulfstream in commemoration of its 50th anniversary year in Savannah.

About the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force

The museum exists to educate visitors about the character, courage, valor and patriotism of the brave individuals who fought in the Eighth Air Force, the largest air armada in history.

With films, exhibits, artifacts and archival materials, visitors are immersed in the stories of individuals who served in the storied Eighth Air Force, whose sacrifices made victory in World War II possible.

The museum covers the World War I aftermath and prelude to World War II, the rise of Hitler, the invasion of Poland, Scandinavia, France and the Low Countries, the entry of Japan into the War and the entry of the United States in World War II.

The Mighty Eighth Museum is home to a fully-restored B-17 “Flying Fortress” and the multimedia “Mission Experience,” an immersive simulated bombing mission in a special theater utilizing actual combat footage.
