With the first day of school arriving Thursday, students in Effingham County flocked to their prospective institution of learning on Monday and Tuesday for Open House with middle and high school students attending Monday and elementary students attending Tuesday.

Over the past two weeks, teachers, administrators, specialists and other employees of the Effingham County School System have been busy preparing for another school year.

Monday, students at South Effingham High School walked through the doorway of the school after a few months off and got their schedules – trudging through the halls, they went to each classroom on their schedule to meet with their new teachers.

While many teachers remain from last year, there were new faces at the school as well – this year, more than 200 new employees were hired to work in the school system.

Along with getting their schedules, syllabuses and lists of needed supplies, students were afforded the opportunity to speak with members of different clubs and groups that had set up booths in the lunchroom.

Representatives from the band, JROTC, chorus and other clubs met and talked with future prospective members and their parents.

If Open House is any indication, students and teachers in Effingham County are in for another great year.
