Local SAT scores top state average

POSTED: November 27, 2017 8:00 a.m.

SPRINGFIELD — Effingham County high school students are on the right testing track.

Wendy Porter, executive director of Curriculum and Technolgy for Effingham County Schools, reported positive 2016 SAT results to the Effingham County Board of Education at a regularly scheduled meeting at Effingham County Middle School on Nov. 16.

“We have a reason to celebrate our SAT scores,” Porter told the board.

Students at Effingham County and South Effingham high schools combined to post the 22nd-best average score out of Georgia’s 170 school districts.

The SAT consists of two parts reading and writing, and math. The state average on each segment is 534 and 515, respectively.

“Both of our high schools (Effingham County and South Effingham) have exceeded that,” Porter said. “Not only that, in First District RESA (Regional District Service Agency), we are second only to Camden County. Our score is 1,075 as a system.

“Camden County’s was 1,078 and we tested one-third more students than Camden County.”
