15-run inning propels Rebels to victory

SPRINGFIELD — A 15-run balloon popped in the faces of the Burke County Bears on Saturday.
The Bears entered the fifth inning with an 8-2 lead but emerged from it down nine runs en route to an 18-8 loss to the Effingham County Rebels.
Jordan Rahn socked two extra-base hits during the decisive frame — first a triple and then a double. He finished with four hits in five at-bats with three runs scored and five RBI.
Effingham County collected 17 hits as a team. In addition to Rahn, Zach Wilson, Chandler Hinely, Jerid Stokes and Christian Campbell had multiple hits for the Rebels.
Ryan Harley was the winning pitcher in relief. He worked two scoreless frames.
Rebels starter Avery Elenbaas allowed six hits and six runs over 2 2/3 innings. Chrys Hawkins also saw action on the mound.
On Thursday, the Rebels lost 7-6 at Wayne County. Cooper Martin won it for the Yellow Jackets with a seventh-inning RBI single.
Campbell led Effingham County with three hits. Stokes had two RBI and Cullen Wake and Chase Howze each drove in one run.
Colton Long took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs (four earned) in 3 2/3 innings. He issued seven free passes.
On March 5, the Rebels blanked Screven County 12-0 at home. Winning pitcher Ethan Johnson allowed only one hit in five innings.
Campbell had one hit and four RBI. Rahn knocked in a pair of runs.
