SPRINGFIELD — The impact of Ethan Johnson and Avery Elenbaas’ microscopic ERAs is easy to see.
The Effingham County Rebels (17-9, 6-2 in Region 2-AAAAAA) usually win when they pitch.
“Ethan has given us some really solid innings,” Rebels coach Brett Griffin said after Wednesday’s 16-1 win over Bradwell Institute. “He goes out and throws strikes, and he throws three different pitches for strikes.
“I think his ERA before Monday night’s start (against Bradwell Institute) was like 0.29, which is solid. It’s one of the lowest ERAs in the state of Georgia.”
Johnson didn’t get a decision in the Rebels 5-1 extra-innings win Monday. Still, he allowed just five hits and one run in seven frames. He fanned eight.
“What Ethan has done is very impressive because he has thrown a lot of innings,” Griffin said. “Avery has done the same thing. When you look at his stuff his ERA is down there, too.”
Elenbaas also stays in and around the strike zone with a three-pitch arsenal.
“They give us a chance,” Griffin said.

Elenbaas was the pitcher of record in Wednesday's four-inning victory. He worked the first three frames, allowing one run and three hits. He struck out four.

Thirty-four of his 50 pitches found the strike zone..
