Bennett named to community bankers group leadership post

POSTED: August 19, 2008 5:00 a.m.

Chap Bennett, president of The Coastal Bank’s Effingham County market, has been officially named the Division One chair of the Community Bankers Association of Georgia’s Leadership Division Board of Directors. He previously served as the organization’s Division One vice chair.

“I’m truly honored to serve the membership of such an important community banking organization and to represent coastal Georgia on this influential board,” said Bennett. “I’m looking forward to helping the Community Bankers Association of Georgia reach an even higher level of success in the coming years.”

Bennett currently manages The Coastal Bank’s construction and development loans system-wide and is responsible for business development and strategic planning in Effingham County. Originally from Thomson, he earned a finance degree from Georgia Southern University and graduated with honors from the University of Georgia’s School of Banking. Bennett has been named one of the region’s top “40 Under 40” and serves as chairman of the Effingham Industrial Development Authority.

The Community Bankers Association of Georgia’s Leadership Division was created in 1980 to educate future bank leaders on the current “hot topics” in the industry and prepare them for further leadership roles in their institutions. The Leadership Division works closely with schools and other organizations in their communities to educate young and old about community banking and other financial topics.

Each year, the Leadership Division conducts several fundraisers that benefit Children’s Healthcare as well.

“We are excited to welcome new and returning members of the CBA Leadership Division,” said Steven D. Bridges, president and chief executive officer of the Community Bankers Association of Georgia. “With such a talented and motivated group of community bankers on the board, the success of this division will continue to grow.  We look forward to working with all of our dedicated board members this year.”

The decision was announced at the 30th Annual Leadership Division Convention and Mini-Trade Show held June 25-29, 2008 at the Grand Floridian in Orlando, Fla.
