Students are preparing for the fashion show at South Effingham High School.

The participants took part in a fabric workshop Saturday with Karin Soderholm, a graduate student from Savannah College of Art and Design.

Soderholm said this was the second workshop for the students. During the first workshop the students used white broadcloth and learned dying techniques.

On Saturday the students used their died broadcloth and began painting designs on the material.

Art teacher Mary Anderegg said the students will use the material for one category of the fashion show. The category requires students to use hand dyed and painted fabric as an element of the design.

The students also will be designing based off a famous work of art and in a multimedia category where the students can use anything except fabric.
There are 15 students participating this year.

Funding for workshops and the production of the event came from a grant from the Grassroots Art Program of the Georgia Council for the Arts.

The fashion show will be held at SEHS on May 2.
