POSTED: July 19, 2007 5:02 a.m.

The South Effingham High School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America celebrated another successful year as they hosted their annual awards banquet with more than 80 people in attendance. Entertainment was provided by singer Jabari Rushin and by dancers Sapri Shorey, Ronnetta Brown and Lateva and Zakiya Rushin. Hillary Driggers provided a power point as a way of reviewing the club’s achievements and activities.

Step One Awards were given to twenty-nine students for completing the first step toward becoming a member. Heather Johnson was awarded the prestigious Power of One award for setting and achieving goals to improve herself, her family and her community.

Region and state STAR event winners included Megan Fiocca, Hershel Anderson, Jake Terrell, Tamela Wallis, Hillary Driggers and April Powell. These students received plaques.

Ten students were presented with senior sashes they wore for class night and graduation to show their participation in FCCLA. The club gave gifts of appreciation to their favorite bus drivers, Becky Shirley and Roulette Duggar.

Fundraiser awards were presented to Hershel Anderson for selling the most candy and to Leighanna Hollingsworth and Stanley Haddad for their Glamour Magic achievements. Marschel Kemper, Katana Hohn, Arcenio Gordon and Lavar West were recognized for their participation in Knowledge Bowl at the Georgia National Fair in Perry last October.

The last event of the year will be a tea in Savannah honoring the officers and class representatives who have been instrumental in planning and carrying out all the club’s activities this year.
