Springfield’s downtown was invaded Saturday night by monsters and aliens as the Springfield Revitalization Corporation held its first outdoors movie night to benefit the Mars Theatre. About 100 people sat in the lot between the Mars Theatre and City Hall and enjoyed the animated movie “Monsters vs. Aliens.” SRC volunteers manned a refreshment tent and sold popcorn, cokes, peanuts and glow sticks to raise money for the restoration of the theatre. Sponsors included Coca Cola, SRC, the city of Springfield and the Effingham County School System. More outdoor showings are in the works.
