Springfield to hold three hearings on proposed 2009 millage rate

POSTED: November 30, 2009 7:19 p.m.

Springfield City Council will hold three public hearings on its proposed millage rate and will hold a workshop tonight for the fiscal year 2010 budget.

Council members are proposing to keep the millage rate at 4.3. That will be an increase of .026 percent over the rollback rate. The rollback rate is computed on a millage rate that would have produced the same revenue on the current year’s tax digest had no reassessments taken place.

Because the budget tentatively adopted by the city requires a millage rate higher than the rollback rate, the city has to hold three public hearings before it can adopt a budget and set its millage rate.

Council members will conduct a budget workshop tonight at 6 p.m.

“We’re pretty close on the general fund (budget) for 2010,” City Manager Brett Bennett said.

The first public hearing on the Springfield millage rate will be held Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at Springfield City Hall. The second hearing will be held later that same day at 6 p.m. The final public hearing will be held Dec. 15 at 11 a.m.
