Making friends at Camp Buddy

The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society held its annual Camp Buddy at Rincon Elementary School, with Chef Nick Mueller's usual visit to make pizzas and fruit sticks with the kids. Caitlyn Fears helps a camper negotiate the steps and Hannah Schurman and a camper finish going up the gym steps. Molly Marchese leads a run around the gym floor. Camp organizers thanked Nick and Tracy Mueller, Dr. Paige Dickey of Rincon Elementary, the Effingham County School System and the community for supporting the annual Buddy Walk.

Getting churned on

The city of Guyton held its third annual ice cream social June 16 from 5:30-7 p.m. on the walking trail, with six churns of homemade ice cream. Pearl Boynes, chair of the Historic Preservation Commission, brought a new peanut butter flavor. There also were two peach ice creams, along with lemon, vanilla and a pineapple-orange sherbet.
