Heritage Bank completes merger
The Heritage Bank and Peoples Bank officials recently announced that the scheduled merger of these two banks has been completed. As of Aug. 17, Peoples Bank of Blackshear, Waycross and Homerville has officially changed its name to The Heritage Bank and all locations are operating as Heritage branches.

State jobless rate jumps to 10.1 percent in July
ATLANTA-State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 10.1 percent in July, up two-tenths of a percentage point from 9.9 percent in June. The state's jobless rate was also 10.1 percent in July a year ago.

ATLANTA-In the first six months of 2011, Insurance Commissioner Ralph T. Hudgens' said his department has helped thousands of Georgians settle disputes with their insurance companies in the first six months of 2011.
