Metro jobless rate jumps

ATLANTA –- The Georgia Department of Labor reported Wednesday that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in metro Savannah rose to 9.3 percent in January, up eight-tenths of one percentage point from a revised 8.5 percent in December. Meanwhile the number of unemployed workers in the area increased to 16,315, up 1,496 from 14,819 in December.

USDA revises farmers trade aid program

Hobby Stripling, state executive director of USDA's Farm Service Agency in Georgia announced that USDA has a revised Trade Adjustment Assistance for Farmers Program. Under the program, the USDA provides technical assistance and cash benefits to eligible producers of raw agricultural commodities and fishermen who have been hurt by import competition.

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 10.4 percent in January, topping the previous record high of 10.3 percent reported in December.

Upgrade to expand capacity at Garden City Terminal

Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Curtis J. Foltz announced that a new set of electrified refrigerated container racks were completed and came online in Container Berth Five (CB-5) last week. With the 10 new racks, Garden City Terminal now has a total of 44 racks, which accommodate 1,056 containers.
