Ameris to acquire The Coastal Bank

Ameris Bancorp, the parent company of Ameris Bank, announces the acquisition of The Coastal Bank (Coastal Bankshares, Inc), scheduled to close in the third quarter of 2014. Once this merger is finalized, Ameris Bank will be the largest community bank on the Georgia coast.

Effingham jobless rate up slightly from December’s mark

ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the unemployment rate in the Coastal Georgia region increased to 7.5 percent in January, up three-tenths of a percentage point from 7.2 percent in December. The rate was 8.9 percent in January a year ago.
