State job fair to hit the airwaves

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor's 15th annual televised job fair will be carried statewide on Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) May 17, from 2-4 p.m. The live broadcast, entitled Job Fair 2009 – Preparing For Recovery, will originate from Atlanta, Albany and Macon. The broadcast will be simulcast over WALB-TV Channel 10 in Albany and WMAZ-TV Channel 13 in Macon.

Metro Savannah jobless rate falls to 7.5 percent

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate in the metro Savannah area declined to a preliminary unadjusted rate of 7.5 percent in March, down from a revised 7.9 percent in February. The March jobless rate was up 3.0 percentage points from 4.5 percent at this same time last year.

Jobless numbers hold steady

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 9.2 percent in March, unchanged from a revised 9.2 percent in February. The "unchanged" March unemployment rate is significant because this is the first time in 20 months that the rate did not increase over the previous month.
