Port’s study reveals emissions cut, efficiency increased
SAVANNAH-The Georgia Ports Authority's (GPA) Executive Director Curtis J. Foltz announced that its diesel additive study yielded a 5-percent reduction in fuel consumption, as well as drastically decreased emissions. Great Dane to open plant in Statesboro
After an extensive property search, Great Dane Limited Partnership has announced plans to build a new refrigerated trailer plant on a 118-acre site in the Gateway Industrial Park on Highway 301 South in Statesboro. The plant, in its first phase, will encompass 450,000 square feet, including office and show room space, and will have the capacity to produce 5,000-plus trailers annually. Dog training academy welcomed
The Effingham Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, welcoming Effingham Dog Training to the community. Owner and trainer Trisha and husband Robert Olsen showed off their dog, Belle, at the ribbon cutting. Belle is a registered therapy dog and volunteers with the READ program in Springfield. Classes are discounted for owners of rescued dogs.

State unemployment rate declines
ATLANTA-State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler announced Thursday that Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined for the ninth consecutive month in April to 8.9 percent, the first time in more than three years the rate has dropped below nine percent. The rate fell one-tenth of a percentage point from 9.0 percent in March. The jobless rate was 9.8 percent in April a year ago.

GDOL to team up with Military Sealift Command
ATLANTA-The Georgia Department of Labor's (GDOL) Brunswick Career Center will help Military Sealift Command (MSC) fill a number of job openings for civilian employees to work on civilian-crew ships that transport equipment and supplies to U.S. military forces worldwide. DOL taking unemployment insurance claims online
ATLANTA-State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said that the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) is among 10 states that have launched a new electronic system designed to increase efficiency and reduce costs of operating the state's unemployment insurance (UI) program.
Unemployment falls to 7.9 percent in Effingham County
ATLANTA-The Georgia Department of Labor announced that the preliminary unemployment rate in metro Savannah declined to 8.3 percent in March, down three-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 8.6 percent in February. The jobless rate in metro Savannah in March a year ago was also 8.6 percent.
McCurry to discuss ports at Chamber breakfast

That is a decline of one-tenth of a percentage point from a revised 9.1 percent in February. The jobless rate was 9.8 percent in March a year ago.

Unemployment benefits extension set to expire
ATLANTA-The State Extended Benefit (SEB) program for long-term unemployed Georgians will end April 21. The SEB is a federally-funded extended unemployment insurance program.
