Jenny Harris, daughter of Chris and Teresa Harris of Rincon, has been selected as a finalist for Georgia's 29th annual homecoming queen selection to be held March 28-29 at the Holiday Inn Select Atlanta Airport South. Harris is the reigning homecoming queen for South Effingham High School.
The residents at Effingham Care Center were entertained Saturday by the Lotus Dance Company, which performed a variety of Middle Eastern and fusion dances. The residents enjoyed the colorful costumes, veils and the canes they used during the performance.

The Effingham Academy class of 1956 held its 53rd reunion at Johnny Harris Restaurant. The evening began with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and there were door prizes of chocolate candies and red silk roses for the ladies. A happy birthday was wished to Jimmy Derrick and a special welcome was given to Sally Graham Cavannah, attending her first reunion.
The Rincon Garden Club's 2009-10 season began with the installation of officers. The meeting was held in the home of Jim Scott. A white elephant sale was held to raise funds for their treasury. The club's objective is to beautify Rincon as seen by the plants and flowers in front of City Hall, the library, Manna House and the Hinely building. The Christmas tree given to the city by the Lion's Club was decorated by the Rincon Garden Club.
