Effingham County Health Department Nurse Manager Cindy Grovenstein was named the recipient of the Maggie Kline Nursing Award by the Georgia Public Health Association. Grovenstein was presented with the award at GPHA's 84th annual meeting and conference held recently in Atlanta.

The Effingham County Hussars Chapter No. 2285, United Daughters of the Confederacy, will host Effingham's annual Confederate Memorial Day program Sunday at 4 p.m. The remembrance will be held at the Confederate Monument at the graves of 26 unknown Confederate soldiers in the Guyton Cemetery.
The Exchange Club of Effingham County recently held its annual American citizenship speech contest. Each student was advised that the speech must carry a positive theme of patriotism and pride in the democratic form of government.
