Effingham CAP to start model rocketry

Each Tuesday, the cadets of the Effingham Cadet Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol meet to learn about aviation, aerospace engineering, search and rescue, and leadership. The local squadron meets from 6-8 p.m. at 226 Goshen Rd. in building 500, room 507. The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a volunteer, civilian auxiliary arm of the U.S. Air Force. Infant, mother improving after being struck

A teenage mother and her infant daughter are recovering after being struck by a vehicle Saturday evening. The accident occurred Saturday around 7:30 p.m., according to Rincon Police Chief Mike Bohannon. The mother, 16 years old, had her 10-month-old baby in a stroller as they attempted to cross West 9th Street near Anderson Street. The area is unlit, Bohannon said. Work on historic Effingham Courthouse almost complete

Contractors working on the rehabilitation of the historic Effingham Courthouse are working on a punch list of touch up items as they have hit the mark for substantial completion. Health department urging vaccinations against pertussis

An increase in cases of pertussis, more commonly known as "whooping cough," in some metro Atlanta counties and other states has prompted Coastal Health District officials to remind residents that getting vaccinated is the safest and most effective way to prevent the disease.
