Jenkins named chairman of Effingham Red Cross

Uncovering local talent and leadership is all too often seen as a seemingly simple task for an experienced Red Cross representative. For the Red Cross, these special volunteers just don't come along everyday. In fact, all Red Cross volunteers are special. They give effortlessly of their time, energy, knowledge and yes, sometimes even their money. Somewhere among the best people in town, one will always find Red Cross volunteers.

Love was in the air

Approximately 100 people attended the Valentine's Day Sweetheart Dinner and Dance to benefit the Mars Theater last Saturday. Lisa Brant, the organizer of the event, said she was happy with the turnout for the first year and hopes to build on that number next year. The event was held at the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum.

Health Department, GSP to offer booster seat event

The Effingham County Health Department and Georgia State Patrol will hold a Give Kids a Boost community event Jan. 18 from 3-5 p.m. in the parking lot of Lowe's in Rincon.
