Rotary Governor visits
Dick Hyer, district governor for Rotary District 6920, recently visited with members and guests at the Rotary Club of Effingham County meeting. Hyer updated members on Rotary's international progress in eradicating polio and District 6920's participation in the Medical Equipment Transport Service, which collects unused and functional medical supplies and medical equipment to put into use worldwide. CGRDC wins cartography awards
St. Simons Island - The Coastal Georgia Regional Development Center's GIS Division received top honors at this year's Georgia Association of Regional Development Centers' (GARDC) conference. Taking home both the first and second place awards for cartography, the CGRDC's GIS Division swept the category.

Troopers complete DUI class
Georgia Department of Public Safety personnel in Southeast Georgia have completed an administrative license suspension (ALS) and DUI update class held recently on Jekyll Island. Approximately 59 troopers from GSP posts in Brunswick, Hinesville, Jekyll Island, Rincon and Waycross attended the training.

Burns gives kudos to hospital

Health Department, GSP to offer booster seat event
The Effingham County Health Department and Georgia State Patrol will hold a Give Kids a Boost community event Jan. 18 from 3-5 p.m. in the parking lot of Lowe's in Rincon. Booster seats will be given, at no cost, to income-eligible participants including those enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, PeachCare, or Medicaid, who can provide proof of eligibility.

Stroke, osteoporosis screenings coming to Rincon

Young Farmers Award Banquet
The Effingham County Young Farmers celebrated the holidays together with their annual Young Farmer Awards banquet Dec. 8 at New Ebenezer Retreat Center. The group enjoyed dinner and entertainment from David Harbuck and gave out door prizes. FFA officers and advisors from each school attended, along with local state Reps. Ann Purcell and Jon Burns.
