Jenkins named chairman of Effingham Red Cross

Uncovering local talent and leadership is all too often seen as a seemingly simple task for an experienced Red Cross representative. For the Red Cross, these special volunteers just don't come along everyday. In fact, all Red Cross volunteers are special. They give effortlessly of their time, energy, knowledge and yes, sometimes even their money. Somewhere among the best people in town, one will always find Red Cross volunteers.

Approximately 100 people attended the Valentine's Day Sweetheart Dinner and Dance to benefit the Mars Theater last Saturday. STARs steal the show

Jeffery Hancock was named the Effingham County School System STAR student Thursday at the Rotary Club of Effingham County's meeting. Hancock is South Effingham High School's STAR student. He chose Carla Dean, his eighth grade earth sciences teacher, as his STAR teacher. Hancock will be attending Georgia Tech.

Health Department, GSP to offer booster seat event

The Effingham County Health Department and Georgia State Patrol will hold a Give Kids a Boost community event Jan. 18 from 3-5 p.m. in the parking lot of Lowe's in Rincon. Booster seats will be given, at no cost, to income-eligible participants including those enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, PeachCare, or Medicaid, who can provide proof of eligibility.
