SYLVANIA - Cadets with the Civil Air Patrol, Effingham Cadet Squadron were recently hosted at Plantation Airpark near Sylvania for basic cadet training and orientation flights (O-flights). Seven cadets took part in the activities which included training in flight line marshalling and ground team activities related to search and rescue.
The Effingham County Sheriff's Office, Effingham County Health Department, Governor's Office of Highway Safety and Georgia State Patrol offered free child car seat inspections Saturday at Walmart in Rincon for "National Seat Check Saturday."

The Coastal Georgia Alzheimer's Association will host the third annual David Jimenez Open golf tournament Oct. 5 at Rincon's Lost Plantation Golf Club. The event helps spread awareness and gives support to the Coastal Georgia Alzheimer's Association in its mission to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
Rev. Lloyd Dees of Effingham County has been named the chairman of the Coastal Regional Commission's Area Agency on Aging. Rev. Dees' post is a two-year term. At the April 28 first quarterly meeting of the AAA, director Dionne Lovett discussed the outcome of three General Assembly bills that affect Georgia seniors. Two passed and another will take additional advocacy efforts for the next session.
Before an audience that filled nearly every available seat in the Effingham County Recreation and Parks Department Gymnasium, Effingham Community Orchestra presented its "The Americans" concert May 3. The concert featured several patriotic pieces and included many other selections, all by American composers.
