Farm Bureau honors Helmey

The children of C. Edward Helmey Sr. attended the annual Georgia Farm Bureau Convention at Jekyll Island on Dec. 2 to light a candle in memory of their dad who was remembered as a former Effingham County Farm Bureau president.

On a mission

The Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club presented Steve and Hope Shearouse a $1,000 donation to "Mission on the Move." The Shearouses have spent the last seven years in the mission field and are currently serving in Honduras.

Georgia Power employees put force behind donations

Recently, employees of Georgia Power from Plants McIntosh Steam/CT and McIntosh Combined Cycle donated more than 260 pounds of food to Effingham food pantries. Because of their concern for others, the Georgia Power employees suggested the project in hopes of helping as many families as possible with food during the holidays.

Going for green — and getting gold

SAVANNAH-The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) certified Effingham County's newly renovated courthouse as LEED Gold, the second highest rating possible. This means that the building was designed and constructed using materials, systems, and operations that reduces its impact on the environment and improves energy efficiency.
