Two new members of Effingham Sunrise Rotary were pinned last week. The first was Dr. James Cornwell who was pinned by Jerry Freyermuth. Then Rev. David Grandgeorge was pinned by Julia Cochran.
Dick Hyer, district governor for Rotary District 6920, recently visited with members and guests at the Rotary Club of Effingham County meeting. Hyer updated members on Rotary's international progress in eradicating polio and District 6920's participation in the Medical Equipment Transport Service, which collects unused and functional medical supplies and medical equipment to put into use worldwide. Hyer also shared that the Georgia Rotary student program has 71 students this year from around the world to study at colleges in Georgia as part of Rotary's efforts to promote understanding of differing cultures and lifestyles.
St. Simons Island - The Coastal Georgia Regional Development Center's GIS Division received top honors at this year's Georgia Association of Regional Development Centers' (GARDC) conference. Taking home both the first and second place awards for cartography, the CGRDC's GIS Division swept the category.
