Leroy Lloyd, the president of the Effingham County branch of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), announced that the branch will host the annual Freedom Fund and Honors Banquet on Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. at the PMBA Social Hall, 801 Central Blvd., Guyton.

ATLANTA-The Georgia Department of Economic Development's Georgia Council for the Arts, in partnership with the Georgia Municipal Association, released a new industry impact report, "Leveraging Public Investment in the Arts." This report contains a series of case studies and project studies that illuminate the positive impact of the arts as an economic development tool in Georgia's communities.
Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County will be accepting applications for home ownership until Aug. 29. Applicant criteria information and an application can be downloaded from the Web site at www.habitatec.org/homeownership/ or picked up from Habitat's offices at 3605 Highway 21 South in Rincon. There is a fee when the application is returned to obtain a credit report.
