Effingham Loves Ella, a fundraiser to fight childhood cancer, was held Saturday at the Effingham Fairgrounds in honor of Ella Bothwell. Bothwell is a student at Blandford Elementary School who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
The annual Superheroes run to benefit the Court Appointed Special Advocates of the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit was held Saturday in Guyton, as runners in their best superhero grab - or not - hit the streets.
Current active members and retirees of the 165th Maintenance Group, as well as the entire 165th Airlift Wing at Travis Field, will be recognized and honored at the Veterans Day program at Veterans Park on Nov. 11 at 11 am.
Dozens of men and women in different uniforms filed through the Rincon Recreation Department's Macomber Park Building, and while the uniforms may have varied in color, there was one accoutrement in common - their badge.

American Legion Post 209 Commander M. Tommy Pierce went to the home of member Franklin Moore on Oct. 17 and presented him with a certificate and a pin for 50 years of continuous membership in American Legion Post 209 in Springfield.
Effingham County resident Lucy Waller will hold a book signing to introduce her new book, "Follow the Setting Sun," which is a novel of Ebenezer and the Salzburgers. She is also the author of three other books, "While the Coffee Perks," "Let God Be The Judge," and "Table For Two."
Kroger employee and Rincon resident Chris Pigg won the drawing of $500 in Target gift cards as part of the United Way of the Coastal Empire's annual campaign. Anyone who attends an employee campaign meeting has a chance to win the weekly prize.
