On Sunday, Effingham County will have its first "Cutest Chihuahua" thanks to the Cinco de Mayo (Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors) Relay for Life team. The contest, which will benefit the American Cancer Society, will be held at 2 p.m. in the Lowe's parking lot.
On March 29 more than 160 family members, residents, visitors and staff attended the Ms. ECC pageant anticipating who will be crowned the queen. After the votes were tallied, Willene Kessler was crowned Ms. Effingham Care Center 2008. A reception following the pageant was held in honor of the nine ladies who participated in the pageant.

This past weekend Statesboro's Cheer South All-Stars competed in the last of their nine competitions for the 2007-2008 year. This was also the end of the graduating seniors' competition cheerleading career. Six of the 19 girls will be graduating in May so their National Cheer Star Grand National Champion win in Savannah was bitter sweet. Not only did they score the highest in their level 4 division but this team scored the highest scores in the entire competition for all five levels of teams competing.
