Effingham County Recreation and Parks held the annual Jacan Brown Spring Run on Feb. 28. The event consisted of a one-mile walk and run and a 5K walk and run. The event hosted more than 65 participants many competing in both races.
The highly-anticipated opening day for turkey hunting season is Saturday, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division expects that the 2015 season should be a fair one.
The Effingham County High School Hall of Fame inducted its 2015 class Friday, welcoming in Chriss Allen, Paul Carrington and Trey Hunter. Allen, left, Carrington and Hunter's parents were on hand to accept their plaques and their inductions into the hall.
The Effingham County commisioners proclaimed Jan. 20 as "Effingham Champions Day-10U Jaguars Football," in honor of the Effingham County Recreation and Parks' 10-and-under football team that won the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association state title.
There were a lot of swings and some misses during the annual Josh Reddick Home Run Derby, held Saturday at Sand Hill Park. The Oakland Athletics outfielder and his Josh Reddick Foundation raise money for local recreation programs and facilities with the event.
The Effingham Bulls defeated the Savannah Tigers 22-21 on March 29 to become the 360 Showcase tourney champions in Savannah. The event was held at Beach and Johnson high schools and had teams from Florida and South Carolina. They overcame a 9-0 deficit to start the game.
The 8-and-under and 9-and-under South Georgia Combat baseball teams from Effingham took home two championships recently. The U8 team won the Early Bird Classic at Mill Creek Regional Park in Statesboro by going 4-0 on Saturday. In the championship game, Josh Ford hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
